How to Protect macOS from Screen Sharing Scams

Issue Description 

Scammers trick users into sharing their screen to steal credentials, transfer money, or install malware. 

Common Causes 

  • Fake Apple or bank support calls 
  • Emails asking to “verify” issues 
  • Panic-driven pop-ups 

Step-by-Step Solution 

Step 1: Disable Screen Sharing Completely 

  • System Settings → General → Sharing 
  • Turn OFF: 
  • Screen Sharing 
  • Remote Management 

 

Step 2: Remove Screen Sharing Apps 

  • Delete AnyDesk, TeamViewer, Chrome Remote Desktop, Zoom (if unused) 

 

Step 3: Check Background Access 

  • System Settings → General → Login Items 
  • Remove unknown background apps 

 

Step 4: Change Compromised Passwords 

  • Change Apple ID, email, and banking passwords immediately
