How to Troubleshoot Printer Paper Jams and Driver Problems

Issue Description 

Printers may stop working due to paper jams or driver-related issues, even when no paper is visibly stuck. 

Common Causes 

  • Hidden paper fragments 
  • Outdated or corrupt printer drivers 
  • Incorrect printer configuration 

Step-by-Step Solution 

Step 1: Power Cycle the Printer 

  • Turn off the printer 
  • Unplug power cable 
  • Wait 30 seconds 
  • Plug back in and power on 

 

Step 2: Check for Hidden Paper Jams 

  • Open all printer access panels 
  • Remove toner/ink cartridge 
  • Look inside rollers using a flashlight 
  • Gently remove any paper pieces 

 

Step 3: Clear Print Queue 

  • Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners 
  • Select printer → Open print queue 
  • Cancel all jobs 

 

Step 4: Reinstall Printer Driver 

  • Go to Device Manager → Printers 
  • Remove printer 
  • Download latest driver from manufacturer site 
  • Install and restart
