How to Fix Slow Internet Speeds on Windows Machines

Internet speed may feel slow despite a fast connection plan, affecting browsing, downloads, and streaming. 

Common Causes 

  • Background downloads or updates 
  • Wi-Fi interference or weak signal 
  • DNS or network adapter issues 
  • Malware or VPN throttling 

Step-by-Step Solution 

Step 1: Check Actual Internet Speed 

  • Open a browser 
  • Visit a trusted speed test website 
  • Compare results with your ISP plan 

 

Step 2: Restart Network Devices 

  • Turn off modem and router 
  • Wait 30 seconds 
  • Turn them back on 
  • Restart the PC 

 

Step 3: Disable Background Network Usage 

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc → Task Manager 
  • Check Network column 
  • End unnecessary high-usage apps 

 

Step 4: Reset Network Settings 

  • Open Settings → Network & Internet → Advanced network settings 
  • Click Network reset → Reset now
