Correcting Wrong Date and Time on macOS

Issue Description 

The Mac displays an incorrect date or time, causing login, iCloud, and app sync issues. 

Common Causes 

  • Automatic time sync disabled 
  • Network time server issues 
  • CMOS/NVRAM glitches 

Step-by-Step Solution 

Step 1: Enable Automatic Time 

  • Open System Settings → General → Date & Time 
  • Enable Set time and date automatically 

 

Step 2: Verify Time Server 

  • Click Set next to Time Server 
  • Use: time.apple.com 

 

Step 3: Restart Mac 

  • Confirm date and time update correctly 

 

Step 4: Reset NVRAM (Intel Macs) 

  • Shut down 
  • Power on → hold Option + Command + P + R (20 sec)
