Fixing macOS Firewall Blocking Apps

Issue Description 

Legitimate apps fail to connect to the internet or local network due to firewall restrictions. 

Common Causes 

  • Firewall set to block incoming connections 
  • App not allowed explicitly 
  • Corrupt firewall rules 

Step-by-Step Solution 

Step 1: Check Firewall Status 

  • Open System Settings → Network → Firewall 
  • Ensure Firewall is ON but not overly restrictive 

 

Step 2: Allow the Blocked App 

  • Click Options under Firewall 
  • Add the affected app 
  • Set it to Allow incoming connections 

 

Step 3: Disable Stealth Mode (If Enabled) 

  • Firewall Options → Disable Stealth Mode 

 

Step 4: Restart Mac and Test 

  • Relaunch the app and verify connectivity
