Audio output or microphone input stops working in apps or system-wide. 

Common Causes 

  • Wrong audio device selected 
  • App permissions blocked 
  • Audio services stuck 

Step-by-Step Solution 

Step 1: Check Sound Output/Input 

  • Open System Settings → Sound 
  • Select correct Output and Input device 

 

Step 2: Check App Permissions 

  • System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone 
  • Enable access for affected apps 

 

Step 3: Restart Core Audio 

  • Open Terminal 

sudo killall coreaudiod 

  • Enter admin password 

 

Step 4: Restart Mac 

  • Test sound and mic again
