How to Create a Bootable USB Installer for Windows

Issue Description 

A bootable USB installer is required to install Windows, repair startup issues, or recover a system that won’t boot. 

Common Causes 

  • No installation DVD available 
  • Windows cannot boot 
  • Need for clean installation or repair 

Step-by-Step Solution 

Step 1: Prepare the USB Drive 

  • Insert a USB drive (8GB or larger) 
  • Back up its contents (it will be erased) 

 

Step 2: Download Microsoft Media Creation Tool 

  • On a working PC, open a browser 
  • Search for Windows Media Creation Tool 
  • Download the tool from Microsoft’s official site 

 

Step 3: Create the Bootable USB 

  • Run the Media Creation Tool 
  • Accept the license terms 
  • Select Create installation media (USB flash drive) 
  • Choose correct language, edition, architecture 
  • Select your USB drive 
  • Wait for creation to complete 

 

Step 4: Boot From the USB 

  • Insert USB into the target PC 
  • Power on and press F12 / Esc / F9 / Del (varies by brand) 
  • Select the USB device 
  • Windows Setup will load
