How to Repair Corrupted System Files with SFC and DISM

Issue Description 

Corrupted Windows system files can cause crashes, update failures, and slow performance. 

Common Causes 

  • Improper shutdowns 
  • Malware infections 
  • Failed Windows updates 

Step-by-Step Solution 

Step 1: Open Command Prompt as Administrator 

  • Press Start → type cmd 
  • Right-click Command Prompt → Run as administrator 

 

Step 2: Run System File Checker 

  • Type: 
  • sfc /scannow 
  • Press Enter 
  • Wait until 100% completes 

 If errors are fixed, restart and test 

 

Step 3: Run DISM Repair 

  • In the same window, run: 
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth 
  • Wait for completion 
  • Restart the PC 

 

Step 4: Re-run SFC 

  • Run sfc /scannow again to confirm repair
