How to Secure Remote Access to Your Windows PC Safely

Remote access without proper security can expose your system to unauthorized access.

  • No network-level authentication 

Step-by-Step Solution 

Step 1: Enable Network Level Authentication 

  • Open Settings → System → Remote Desktop 
  • Turn ON Require Network Level Authentication 

 

Step 2: Restrict User Access 

  • Click Select users that can remotely access this PC 
  • Add only required users 

 

Step 3: Change Default RDP Port (Advanced) 

  • Edit registry to use non-default port 
  • Update firewall rule accordingly

  • Connect via VPN before RDP
